IRS Postpones Tax Filing and Payment Deadline Until July 15
With Friday’s announcement, the April 15, 2020 tax deadline for filing and payments has now been delayed 90 days. The filing deadline is now July 15 for all filers. No extension request is required. That’s the most recent update. The extended payment deadline, announced earlier last week, is available to individuals who owe $1 million or less and to corporations that owe $10 million or less.
The IRS is open!
For those who are owed a refund, you can still file immediately and get your money. For those of you who owe money, you now have more time to file and pay. Even with the new July 15 deadline, we encourage you to still get us your tax filing information as quickly as possible. We can complete your tax return, and then file it sooner or later depending on your refund status.
No Georgia update yet
The Georgia Department of Revenue has not yet announced any changes. For the moment at least, your Georgia tax filing and payment are still due April 15. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear any updates.
There will most likely be more tax-related updates this week as Congress works on their next coronavirus economic relief bill. We’ll send updates when decisions are finalized. If you have any questions, even if you’re not a BJM client, please contact us. We’re here to help everyone get through these stressful times.
What’s Next?
There are many other regulatory changes in discussion that will impact you, your business, and your taxes. Rather than send you information that may change, we’ll stick to providing updates when key decisions have been made.
